One day I will find out the history of this font. If anyone who downloads this file knows about it, please tell me. "Smoke" is a very stylized backslanted display font that is best taken in small doses in at least 18 points, but it's one of my wacko favorites. If you're into type at all, you'll recognize it immediately. I'm amazed no commercial versions are available.
I call my Type 1 Fontographer 3.1 version "Psychedelic Smoke" because I remember it used in commercial art a lot when I was a teenager in the late 60s, but it's a good deal older than that. The main problem with this font is that because of the unusual shapes of many of the characters, I had to spend days kerning hundreds of letter pairs to get it to look right (watch out for the letter V especially). This font will look good ONLY in applications that utilize a font's kerning pairs (theTypeBook, for example, doesn't, so this will look awful if you use theTypeBook to print a sample--but in PageMaker 4 it looks pretty good). The bitmap comes in 24-point size only. I assume that if you are enough of a font fiend to use this font, you will use ATM all the time, and you'll know not to use Psychedelic Smoke in small sizes. If anyone wants to mess with the kerning pairs or outlines, send me a blank disk and I'll send you the Fontographer 3.1 file.
This font is free to anyone who wants it, as long as anyone distributing it keeps all files, including this one, together with it. Users groups, BBSs, etc., are welcome to it, but Educorp & others who sell "freeware" MUST send me a free copy of any disk they sell it on.
